Snowbird Arrival RV Prep Checklist

Every fall, the Treasure Coast fills back up with RVs that have spent the summer in storage or driven down from up north. Before you settle in for the season, a quick systems check catches problems while they're still easy to fix — not three weeks into your stay.

Plumbing and water systems

• Sanitize the fresh water tank if it's been sitting since spring
• Check under sinks and around the water heater for any drips that started during storage or the drive down
• Run every faucet and flush the toilet to confirm normal water pressure and drainage
• If you winterized before storing up north, make sure antifreeze is fully flushed before connecting to city water

A/C and electrical

• Power up the A/C and give it a few minutes to confirm normal cooling — compressors that sat idle for months sometimes need a moment to get going, but persistent weak airflow is worth a look
• Test all interior and exterior lights, and check the battery water level (or state of charge for AGM/lithium) if the coach sat unplugged
• If you're at a new RV park this season, confirm your shore power cord and surge protector are working before you plug in for good

Awning and exterior

• Extend the awning fully and check the fabric for mildew spots or tears from storage
• Inspect roof sealant if this is your first check since last spring — see our hurricane season roof prep guide for what to look for
• Check tire pressure and look for flat spots from months of sitting in one position

Generator

• Run the generator under load for 15-20 minutes if it hasn't run since last season — fuel that sat for months can gum up carburetors and injectors
• Check the oil level and look at the air filter
